Celluloide

Was reading Pixelsurgeon just now. Came across this interview with this French synth-pop band, Celluloide. Well, one of the player is called Member U-0176. He could be a membersss for all we know.

Anyway, they are releasing an online EP of covers, 'Naphtaline' for free download here. Hehehe, I'm Singaporean. Nothing's better than free!!!

However, what's more interesting is their choices of covers. The EP includes covers by The Sisters Of Mercy, Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Cure, Lush and more. They did The Cure's 'Three Imaginary Boys' (Never heard the original before). And Lush's 'Light From A Dead Star'!!! Yes, I know there are a couple of Lush fans out there. Yeah, I'm humming the tune right now as well.

Retail Therapy

Was out with Melvin (this is gettin' sick... I'm seeing him almost every weekend...).

Bought a novel (finally after ages of not reading), The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time by Mark Haddon. Kinokuya has this discount coupon you can clip off the Saturday papers, Life Section. Used Melvin's first though I clipped my own when I came back. I feel like an auntie now...

Wanted to get M83's (great site, btw) 'Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts' at HMV but fuck, they took it off the recommended section and it is selling for like, $29 now!!! This is not goot...

But tried out a couple of albums at HMV which sounded pretty good. Read Paul Zach's review of The Magnetic Field's new album, 'i'. He was pretty much waxing lyrical about the album. I've downloaded a couple mp3s off their previous albums, the 3 album opus, '69 Love Songs'. If I remember correctly, there were some tunes about fucking bunnies. Not beastiality you sick bastards. Copulating rabbits... Anyway, it sounded pretty alright to me and it was going for $23. Thought it was okay but hey, I'm accustomed to getting my CDs for $20 or less.

Secret Machines' 'Now Here Is Nowhere' has gotten kudos from Pitchfork. Sounded pretty good to me too. Didn't get it just yet. Ha, will try Gramaphone 1st. Their site is pretty cool with loads of stuff there and the entire album streaming in its entirety. That rawks. Apparently, the album was available for download on i-Tunes even before the physical album was out on the streets. Hey, sounds like a cool marketing strategy to me.

There seemed to be quite a lot of stuff to get recently. The Delays' 'Faded Seaside Glamour' which I've downloaded a few tracks. They sounded decent but the price of the CD was over fucken $40!!! Insane! Prince's 'Musicology' (No one and no one disses his Purple Royalness!!!) is out now. So is Ash's new one, 'Meltdown' (eh, B.boy, got it yet?) as well. There were several others which I cannot recall right now.

But this album, 'A Heavy Night With...' by this band, Relaxed Muscle caught my eye. It looked like a heavy metal record.

It does innit it? Strangely, when I read the review of the CD at the side, the guy on the right with full face paint is Jarvis Cocker!!! The singer of Pulp and probably the best lyricist from the U.K. since Morissey. Cocker looks like a reject from Cradle of Filth more than anything. And I thought he had retired after the dissolution of Pulp. From what I've read, it's just a duo. Richard Hawley of The Longpigs is in it(I think I just heard B.boy cream his pants). Apparently, they play electro-clash or some electronic stuff. Interesting but expensive at $41. I think it's an album to download rather than buy.

In any event, you feel like buying me some gifts in the next week, please pick one of the CDs from the list above. Make me a happy man!

Astrology is bullshit...

Haven't read Maddox for quite some time. However, he's always hilarious with his highly controversial views on things...

His take on why astrology is total bullshit. I know quite a couple of you guys totally swear by this stuff but I think it's crap too...

Jammin' at Yeeyong's place

Was at his place on Thurs. Took some photos of the jamming session. Andy wasn't around.

Joey Dawg, the 78 Love Experiment's (i.e. my band) official mascot and Yeeyong's dawg. I love him; he's damn funny. Check out the left ear. It's always floppy and his tail is always stuck to his body. The felcher never wags it. Not at people, at least, only other dawgs.

Yeeyong still sick... physically... and probably mentally as well.

Some needs to shave...

Er...

Do not be fooled that Weiyuan was rawking very hard. He was just bending over to pick up my cable.

You gotta love that look of disinterest. Haha...

Fun to have when your boss is not in town...

My office had a guest that day. Walter was his name.

My colleague's new pug, Walter. Only 7 weeks old. Naturally, the ladies in the company were cooing over him.

No, she's not my colleague's daughter nor do we support child labour in the company.

We started posing with Walter like Ah Meng in the zoo.

When I found out that Walter had just pooped and he hadn't been wiped yet.

Blogging frenzy

What Gracie said, we have a blogging frenzy amidst my group of friends. I've come to evaluate my own blog as well. Honestly, I found it pretty sad that my friends and I have spent time discussing our blogs during our beer sessions. It just seems that we have no life, besides blogging and beer. No life except beer is okay with me. But throw in blogging... hmmm...

Though you gotta R-E-S-P-E-C-T other blogs, I've never been attracted to those which spend the whole time reflecting on life and that crap. I mean, if you would to spend all your waking moments reflecting on life, where are you going to find the time to live it maaaaannn?!? Where got time to drink beer?!

I read my friends' blogs on an almost daily basis. I've noticed some of them write pensive stuff. Some love to whine. Some take photos and just post them.

Well, I have some photos here and there. Well, I bitch a lot. But I don't reflect and think much about life in general. So this post is going to be all about it.

Here we go:

"If smoking is such an anti-social activity, why do smokers congregate and smoke? When they do that, doesn't it become muthafelchin' sociable then?!"

KA-CHIIIING!!!!

Next post please!

Word of the year

Was out with the membersss last Saturday.

George popped a big one on us, sharing with us a new word he had just learnt.

Felch:
(usually used in homosexual terms)
After a guy fucks another guy in the arse, he cums in it. He then proceeds to suck the cum outta the arse.

Yeah... you can't beat imagery like that around here.

We spent a hour discussing the potential use of the worf 'Felch' at Siam Reap.

For example, you ask a girl, "Do you felch?". That is contextually wrong as a girl can't do you anally. However, you can ask another guy that. But you wouldn't wanna do that for fear of sending the wrong signals.

However, you still can use 'felch' in such a context.

"Felch off, muthafelcher!!!"

Back to Buffy...

Blogging

Was out with the same bunch as last Friday (sans Jason Siau) at Siam Reap again just now.

Jessica was bitching that I don't link mp3s straight onto my post. Well, it's only polite to direct traffic to others' websites, dahling... Anyway, here's Jason aka Scooterboy's 1st and only effort revisited. I like it.

Project 1. Click right and save as.

Jasmine joined us later and revealed that she too had a blog as well. That got G. Dawg all moaning that he was the only one at the table without a blog. Tough, bitch!

Siam Reap 21 May

Brought the company digicam out that day. Was drinking at Holland V. I guess, since I was with a bunch of Communication Studies graduates, the wankiness came out naturally and we had a field day.

Aaron smoking... I'm such a regular Chris Doyle...

After 3 pints, Jason Siau took this pic. You could tell it was after 3 pints. G. Dawg bearing a strang resemblance to Metallica's Lars Ulrich.

Being the in-house tamileh, G. Dawg couldn't stop shaking his head...

Jason out for the count, Jessica giving him the props and G. Dawg trying to cop a feel.

Aaron was playing around with the flash. I'm not even going to comment on Jason's actions.

No fucken idea what we were doing here anyway.

Another one of Aaron's shots.

Me...

Supper at Crystal Jade. Just the 3 of us. And all agreed that dim-sum rawks...

A new potential hobby?

Read the Life Section of the Sunday Times today. Apparently, Nicholas was supposed to be in it but couldn't find his ugly mug there...

Stumbled upon this article and thought maybe I could pick up a new hobby. Maybe I should sell all my stuff and start doing this.

Thought of it before but didn't know how to go about it. Just call me Brewmaster Tan from now onwards.

H.A.I.R. of June

Poll at the end of the page.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Just came back from the screening. Loved it. Thought it was one of the few great movies I've watched in a long while. It comes highly recommended from me.

Here's the official site.

It's about a guy, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey in his strongest dramatic turn yet) who goes to this company, Laguna Inc. to erase his memories of his failed relationship with Clementine (Kate Winslet). Co-stars Kirsten Dunst, dancing in a thin singlet and panties in one scene. Very nice.

Seriously though, I loved the movie. It was touching without resorting to standard Hollywood theatrics. Was definitely more engaging than Charlie Kaufman's previous work, 'Adaptation'. Not as bizarre as 'Being John Malkovich' which I think no one really gets it anyway. Maybe, it's just me. But it's just as surreal and fun as well.

Akan Dantang...

Unless you haven't watched a movie in the last 2 months, you must have seen the trailer. June 30 is just a month away...

Just a thought: Would we get to see Kirsten Dunst wet, cold and shivering in the rain again...?

Sin City update

Just read this on CHUD:

Perhaps, the only other geek film coming in 2005 that is worth any interest other than 'Batman Begins'. Note the absence of any whatsoever interest in Star Wars Episode 3:Lucas-Can't-Name-Movies.

Basically, I always comic book artist, Frank Miller. 'Sin City' is pretty cool. A straight forward story. Not much plot but more character driven. Then again, CHUD argues the case why this movie will work... very well indeed.

The ambitious project has now added Benicio Del Toro and supercool blackjack dealer Clive Owen to the cast, which already includes Jessica Alba, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Nick Stahl, Jessica Alba, Carla Gugino, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Jessica Alba and Jessica Alba.

Here's some footage. But seriously, the cast is worth the price of admission alone.

Snide...

Just came back from a drinking session with G. Dawg, Jason Siau, Jessica and Aaron who should be updating his blog even as I type this. This is pretty sickening...

Anyways, I went in my room and found a book from my sis on my table .

'Changing Careers for Dummies'.

Nice...

She came in a minute later and said, "Eh, help me return the book. It's due soon" and left.

2046

Wong Kar Wai's super delayed movie, '2046', starring like everyone from Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Faye Wong, Takuya Kimura, Carina Lau, etc.

Here's like a sneak or something... Chekkit. Props to G. Dawg for the link!

Okay, time for Smallville.

Convalescene at home

My friend, Roy asked me what the hell I was loggin' on ICQ in the afternoon and he tot that I couldn't do that in the office. I don't and I can't. I is sick and I is resting at home.

That doesn't stop me from surfing though.

Found some links that might be of interest to you guys.

Anderson and Butler make out...

From Pitchfork:

Chris Rediske reports:
I tell you, it's like a fucking soap opera up in here. Back in January, NME reported that estranged Suede founders Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler were... drinking together in a bar. Apparently, that's what passes for news in the UK-- I mean, it's not like it was Morrissey and Marr, right? At the time, a source close to the band told NME, "They definitely met but they've not spoken to each other for years. It's early days yet. They met up and went out for an Indian meal and then some drinks. It's important people give them space because otherwise it'll end before it's even started."

Well, apparently, that pesky journalistic attention didn't dissuade them from giving it a go, as NME reported in January that Anderson and Butler were definitely collaborating on a project then described as Anderson's "first solo outing." According to another source, "Brett has, as far as I know, been writing with Bernard" on at least one track. As far as the sound of the new project, the source reports, "[He's] wanting to get back to basics, and to stop sounding like Suede for a while. He's really chuffed with the results-- his voice is almost starting to sound like Johnny Cash! When people hear it, I think they're going to be really surprised." I, for one, plan on being quite chuffed, although I realize it's early days yet, and with more space they could potentially end up sounding just the way I want them to.

But it doesn't end there-- a report in, yes, NME a scant few days ago reports that the project has taken on a life of its own, as Anderson and Butler have been busy like bunnies, writing numerous new songs that for some reason will not be released under the Suede moniker. Anderson gave some details in a recent post on Suede's official website: "Firstly I can confirm that me and Bernard are working together again. We've written about 15 songs so far and even though it's early days I can honestly say that I believe the work to be up there with some of the best things we've ever done. I can't tell you what we will be called yet but it will not be Suede or Anderson & Butler. We'll be entering a London studio to start recording in June so I'm hoping that you will hear something early next year." The as-yet-unnamed project is rounded out by an as-yet-unnamed drummer and bassist.

And if that's not enough of the sexy for you, Anderson is also working on another collaborative effort with Fred Ball of the Norwegian band Pleasure. On that subject, Anderson said, "The material is more programmed than the Bernard stuff but still song-based. The writing of this album is close to being finished, too, but I have a less clear plan as to when it might be released." We'll keep you informed of future developments in this ongoing saga with stories like, "Anderson and Butler Return Defective Sneakers," "Anderson and Butler Misplace Remote," and "Anderson and Butler Discuss Phone Charges." We're sure you'll want to know.

This kinda news bring a tear to my eyes... I've been a Suede for the last decade but it has been very trying for the last few years. Any fan from the Dog Man Star era can testify.

But somehow, I think this will still suck. Look at Anderson's recent work in Suede and tell me he won't drag Butler down. Okay, I don't expect every Suede fan to be a McAlmont & Butler fan but M&B had some good shite going there man...

Shake it like a polaroid picture...

A certain sweet girl has posted this question about me on her blog.

Well, the rest of the members who have seen me work my mojo... tell it like it is, baiitchhh...

Hey, bet you didn't expect this!!!

As usual, I was doing some *ahem* research for next month's H.A.I.R. I came across this picture of Mischa Barton who is currently in teen soap, 'The O.C." as Marissa(okay, I admit to watching one episode... dammit, I even know the character's name!!!)

Doesn't she look so pinchable here...? That's her in 'The Sixth Sense' as the girl who was poisoned by her stepmom and the spirit was residing under her bed, puking.

Well, you've come a long way baby....

And you know what's the scariest thing? She's like only 18 this year... Dammit, I'm really gettin' older...

Haven't checked this site out for quite some time... Didn't know they have so many stuff going on there now.

Some live streams of The Rapture doing 'Sister Saviour'

And my sister's all-time fave band, the one this guy plays in.

Hey, they even have the link to the bootleg of the entire Paris set.

Múm

A couple of friends told me about this Icelandic(?) band, Múm before. Downloaded a couple of live tracks from their fansite. Kinda reminds like the Chicago band, Tortoise. I dunno what they are playing. It sounds like they are playing with pots and pans. It's either that or the whole IDM laptop thing. Like I say, I dunno.

But one thing I know, their official site is pretty cool. Got the link off Gracie's site. Welcome to a random summer.

Back to my regular blogging schedule...

Well, miraculously, my PC is no longer slowed down but the Trojan virus is still running amok in my system. I think it was the Norton Anti-virus which had awakened the dormant beast.

As much as some friends had suggested, I'd like to burn out some of the more important files I have in my system. Unfortunately, when I tried installing Nero 6 on Wed (along with the Norton Anti-virus), it asked if I'd like to delete the old Nero 5. I did but I couldn't install Nero 6. Then the virus struck and the system slowed down to a pittance. You can imagine the horror and tramau I went through...

Pain in the ass part 5

It’s fucken shitty as I’ve gotten Trojan in my PC system. This is friggin’ frustrating as everything is slowed down to the max.

Apparently, some forums have been advising to reformat the entire PC. What the fuck!? I have 7 GBs of mp3s ;it’s a friggn’ stamp collection I can’t just simply throw away! I have about a GB worth of live mpegs I cannot just delete like that… Over 30 live Radiohead videos/ concert footage… and of course, the wankingly amazing “Live at Pompeii” rendition of ‘Echoes’ by Pink Floyd.

This sucks.

Anyone who has any alternatives and/ or solutions. Call me. Please.

Censure Rumsfeld

From BoingBoing:

Here's a video clip from MoveOn that shows Rumsfeld admonishing some TV show hosts for claiming he ever said Iraq was an "immediate threat." He challenges his "critics" to provide "citations" to back up their claims, and when they do -- on the spot -- hilarity ensues.

Chekkit.

Xenovibes

Went to watch this gig, Xenovibes last night at the Society Cafe at the old Parliament House. Rather nice place though the yuppie and rich men stench was in the air. Anyway, Shueh-Li, the main composer launched her solo album on this occasion. Honestly, I went for the event since I won a free ticket for it. New age music is not really my scene. And I've never seen anyone play the theremin before.

To be fair, I was really impressed with the level of musicianship and the theremin as well. Needless to say, the amount of gear they have onstage was pretty staggering. They have really interesting concepts, mixing ethnic instrumentation with electronic beats which was either prgrammed or played by a drummer through an electronic drum kit. However, I must still say that it wasn't my cup of tea, growing up as an indie music brat. The sense of rock n roll danger wasn't there. It just seemed too nice and happy for me.

Easily one of the most beautiful women on the planet with the body to boot.

Well, I must admit that the costume looks good from the neck down to the waist even though it looks like it came straight out of a bondage film.

Mansun announcement

Hi everyone,

Firstly, big apologies for not updating you for such a long time. I will
try to keep you informed regularly from now on about future plans for
the band and myself - thank you so much for your patience. I'll try and
explain why things have been so quiet, and shed a bit of light on the
band's split (which was an incredibly difficult decision to make). But
more of that later...

Over the past few months I've been working with Parlophone on pulling
together the loose ends since the split of the band. What we have
decided is that Mansun's fourth album sessions will be released later
this year. These recordings will appear in a three CD package, entitled
'Kleptomania'. CD1 will be the fourth album sessions, CD2 will have the
best stuff from the EPs (the tracks that weren't ever available on the
albums), and CD3 will be rare and unreleased material that we have dug
up from the vaults at Abbey Road. I will also be writing detailed sleeve
notes for the release which should be out in the autumn of this year.

To explain... at the point of the band's split, we had completed four
sessions for the fourth album, and were potentially going to go into the
studio again to add a few extra songs. So the album wasn't fully
completed as such, although there are more than enough tracks from which
the CD1 of the forthcoming set will be compiled. New tracks appearing on
'Kleptomania' will include some of the songs that we played on the final
tour in 2002, like 'Slipping Away', 'Keep Telling Myself' and 'Getting
Your Way'. A full detailed running order of the whole album will be
announced soon and as I get further down the road of putting this record
together, I'll put up regular posts informing you of how it's
progressing.

So, what else have I been up to? Well, I've started work on my own solo
record, but am also busy with a few writing and production
collaborations at the moment. I'll be launching an official website of
my own in the very near future, where I want to go into a bit more
detail about what I've been doing and I'll also keep you informed of
what I'm going to be up to in the future. A message will be posted on
MANSUN.NET and to this e-mail list as soon as my new site is ready, and
I'll continue to have MANSUN.NET updated with news on any future Mansun
releases.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience.

Paul Draper

Their debut album is one of my all-time favourite records. It was a pity when it all ended.

Lair of the vociferous kitten...

Din know that one of my drinking buddies, Aaron has his own blog. After accrediting (sorry, occupational hazard) his blog, I've cut a link on the left column. Vociferous (whatever that fucken means...) kitten, my ass... Horny for pussy is more like it but I love the guy. He drinks a lot... and he's funny when he's high.

Why his blog passed.
1) Firstly, he has unseen footage of my membersss, Gavin doing some sorta weird-ass RnB dance.

I would have killed to see that live. Care to repeat that anytime soon, Nine-Inch-Male?

2) He has pictures of girls in mosiac on his blog.

Hallo, this ain't Jap Adult Video. No need to mosiac one hor... And I quote Jason Siau upon seeing this photo: "What the fuck?"

Why didn't anyone tell me he had such a happening blog before and how he has obviously shaped it into a picking-up chick tool? Bastards.
