Retail Therapy
Was out with
Melvin (this is gettin' sick... I'm seeing him almost every weekend...).
Bought a novel (finally after ages of not reading),
The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time by
Mark Haddon. Kinokuya has this discount coupon you can clip off the Saturday papers, Life Section. Used
Melvin's first though I clipped my own when I came back. I feel like an auntie now...
Wanted to get
M83's (great site, btw) '
Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts' at HMV but fuck, they took it off the recommended section and it is selling for like, $29 now!!! This is not goot...
But tried out a couple of albums at HMV which sounded pretty good. Read
Paul Zach's review of
The Magnetic Field's new album, 'i'. He was pretty much waxing lyrical about the album. I've downloaded a couple mp3s off their previous albums, the 3 album opus, '69 Love Songs'. If I remember correctly, there were some tunes about fucking bunnies. Not beastiality you sick bastards. Copulating rabbits... Anyway, it sounded pretty alright to me and it was going for $23. Thought it was okay but hey, I'm accustomed to getting my CDs for $20 or less.
Secret Machines' '
Now Here Is Nowhere' has gotten kudos from Pitchfork. Sounded pretty good to me too. Didn't get it just yet. Ha, will try Gramaphone 1st. Their site is pretty cool with loads of stuff there and the entire album streaming in its entirety. That rawks. Apparently, the album was available for download on i-Tunes even before the physical album was out on the streets. Hey, sounds like a cool marketing strategy to me.
There seemed to be quite a lot of stuff to get recently.
The Delays' 'Faded Seaside Glamour' which I've downloaded a few tracks. They sounded decent but the price of the CD was over fucken $40!!! Insane!
Prince's 'Musicology' (No one and no one disses his Purple Royalness!!!) is out now. So is
Ash's new one, 'Meltdown' (eh,
B.boy, got it yet?) as well. There were several others which I cannot recall right now.
But this album, '
A Heavy Night With...' by this band,
Relaxed Muscle caught my eye. It looked like a heavy metal record.
It does innit it? Strangely, when I read the review of the CD at the side, the guy on the right with full face paint is
Jarvis Cocker!!! The singer of
Pulp and probably the best lyricist from the U.K. since
Morissey.
Cocker looks like a reject from
Cradle of Filth more than anything. And I thought he had retired after the dissolution of
Pulp. From what I've read, it's just a duo.
Richard Hawley of
The Longpigs is in it(I think I just heard
B.boy cream his pants). Apparently, they play electro-clash or some electronic stuff. Interesting but expensive at $41. I think it's an album to download rather than buy.
In any event, you feel like buying me some gifts in the next week, please pick one of the CDs from the list above. Make me a happy man!
